Gearing Up for GEO Week 2023 – SDG Awards Evaluations Now Underway
The 2023 GEO SDG Awards Program is underway in anticipation of the 2023 GEO Week Plenary and Ministerial Summit, which is organized by the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) in Cape Town, South Africa in November.
Every year, the awards program recognizes outstanding Earth observations for global sustainable development. Launched in 2019, the program highlights those making an impact on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The call for nominations was open from May 16 – July 16. Our panel of 8 evaluators, representatives of the space, technology, and international development sectors, are now in action reviewing the nominations. Meet the 2023 Evaluation Panel!
Sinee 2019, the program has recognized 34 organizations across 11 categories, representing countries from North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Europe. Click here to see our 2022 winners.
This year’s winners will be honored at an in-person ceremony during GEO Week 2023 (6-10 November). The focus of the plenary is The Earth Talks, a theme “reflecting GEO’s unique ability to listen to what our planet is saying and inspire actions through trusted, open Earth observation solutions.”
During GEO Week, there are workshops, technical meetings, flash talks, and showcase events allowing attendees to network and highlight advancements within the Earth observations field. Decisions for the 2023 GEO SDG Award winners will be announced in September. Stay tuned!
