About the EO4SDG Initiative
The EO4SDG Initiative aids GEO’s commitment to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth in the United Nations 2030 Agenda. EO4SDG Initiative is driving ways that Earth observations and geospatial information can support social, economic, and environmental development by helping stakeholders monitor and fulfill SDG targets, indicators, and progress.
Expectations of EO4SDG Co-Chairs
The EO4SDG Co-Chairs provide leadership and oversight for the EO4SDG Initiative. They facilitate progress, guide agenda setting, set priorities and make decisions to advance the initiative’s goals and objectives in coordination with the EO4SDG Executive Director. Co-Chairs serve a three-year term with a maximum of two terms. The expected time commitment is approximately 60 hours annually.
Additional information about Co-Chair responsibilities is available in the EO4SDG Co-Chair Terms of Reference.
Nominations
Co-Chairs represent their country or organization, yet they act in the shared interest of the Initiative and its support of the GEO vision, goals, and strategic priorities. They must demonstrate commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and have extensive experience engaging with stakeholders locally to globally including with experts in Earth observations and geospatial information and with representatives across some or all of government, industry, non-governmental organizations, non-profit organizations and intergovernmental organizations, and users.
A review committee composed of the current EO4SDG Co-Chairs, EO4SDG Executive Director, EO4SDG Board lead, and a GEO Secretariat representative will assess nominations. In line with the GEO Statement on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, geographic, gender balance and other diversity factors are considered in assessment and selection.
