CEOS SDG Awareness Webinar

The Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) Working Group on Capacity Building and Data Democracy and the CEOS Ad Hoc Team on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) held an SDG Awareness Webinar on December 19, 2018.  The training was primarily geared towards CEOS Agencies and its extended community.

There were five key learning objectives in this webinar. First, participants learned about the scale and scope of the SDG Framework and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Attendees also learned about the governance structures and coordination mechanisms in place to help track, monitor, and report on progress against the SDGs. Thirdly, the training highlighted examples of Earth Observation (EO) community efforts such as national use cases, capacity building, outreach, and development of information products and tools to promote integration of EO into national monitoring processes.  The fourth learning objective was to highlight examples of partnerships with organizations and communities that facilitate the dissemination of best practices and promote integrated approaches to address the economic, social, and environmental aspects of the 2030 Agenda. Lastly, the training covered key challenges, gaps, and lessons learned in extending EO uses in support of sustainable development efforts.

CEOS provided reading materials in support of the training’s learning objectives. The webinar organization team consisted of representatives from NASA, INPE, and the University of Jena.
