Earth Observations in Service of the Sustainable Development Goals: Country Experiences

At an informal brown bag session at NASA Headquarters in July 2017, representatives from Colombia and Kenya shared country-level experiences with monitoring and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including successes, challenges, and lessons learned.

As a follow-up to a July 2017 training session held at the United Nations High Level Political Forum,  NASA invited representatives from Kenya and Colombia to provide an overview of each country’s respective SDG monitoring activities. Country representative shared examples of efforts where Earth observations are being used for, or have the potential to contribute to, addressing data needs and achieving specific SDG Targets and Indicators.

Speakers included Philip Thigo, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Kenya (remote attendance); Diana Carolina Nova Laverde, National Administrative Office of Statistics, Colombia; and Aditya Agrawal, Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data.
