Where did you grow up at?
Cleveland, Ohio – It was a privilege growing up along Lake Erie, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world! My family’s home is settled within the regional parks system, so I was always immersed in nature. That close proximity to forest landscapes informs the places I feel most comfortable in as I’ve traveled to as an adult. I love cities with lots of greenery!
What organization do you work with and what is your title?
I am the Executive Director for EO4SDG, serving on behalf of the NASA Earth Science Division. I lead all programmatic activities for the Initiative and am the main contact for community members who want to get involved or are looking for expertise and resources.
In what ways can the broader SDG and EO communities support your initiatives?
I was a geospatial researcher while at Miami University of Ohio, which exposed me to the broad earth science research done at NASA. As I was learning how to use open-source mapping technologies in my courses, I had the opportunity to teach environmental professionals in Indonesia who wanted to visualize human-environmental interactions to decision-makers on how they can utilize them!
What is your favorite SDG and why?
I did research in undergrad around freshwater security, so I’m very drawn to SDG 6! Water is one of our most critical resources on earth, and without adequate access to safe drinking water, societies cannot be secure.
What motivates you to drive advancements in your field?
I am motivated to serve in this role as a way of contributing to international cooperation for science knowledge sharing!
